A long country road sparkled as it stretched through the Zeeland countryside, ice crunching under my feet. The sun cut through the baren apple orchard, casting long shadows on the grass. Across the tree-lined ditch was a flat, charcoal-colored rendition of my labrador, sprinting alongside us. A cacophony of roosters and horses cheered as we passed, and we pounded on, breathless.
