As Bette Midler sang from the soul, I wept (mindful though I was of recently applied eye make-up). It was the thought of the newlyweds, standing on the alter, and the journey that they were about to begin together... the sight of our oldest son, fast asleep on Oma's lap (in spite of his duty as ring bearer)... and the feeling of the baby in my arms, accompanied by the thought that he will one day be saying vows of his own. Then, just as quickly as it had begun, I pulled myself together, bewildered at how someone could play "The Rose" at their wedding without sobbing uncontrollably. Good grief!
