Love, Liebe, and Something in Between

Some say love it is a river that drowns the tender reed... Some say love it is a razer that leaves your soul to bleed... Some say love it is a hunger - an endless aching need... I say love it is a flower, and you it's only seed...

As Bette Midler sang from the soul, I wept (mindful though I was of recently applied eye make-up). It was the thought of the newlyweds, standing on the alter, and the journey that they were about to begin together... the sight of our oldest son, fast asleep on Oma's lap (in spite of his duty as ring bearer)... and the feeling of the baby in my arms, accompanied by the thought that he will one day be saying vows of his own. Then, just as quickly as it had begun, I pulled myself together, bewildered at how someone could play "The Rose" at their wedding without sobbing uncontrollably. Good grief!

Emotions aside, the wedding was perfect. The church part, the reception, the whole darned thing. People made the most thoughtful gifts for them, surprised them with musical performances, danced, laughed, sang, and overindulged. It was just what a wedding should be... all 14 hours of it. Granted, I went to bed at 11 with the kids, but it truly was wonderful. Thank you, Melly and Steffen, for a wonderful and memorable evening!
